Irish Citizenship by Descent and through Naturalisation Visa
There are two main pathways to become and Irish citizen and obtain an Irish passport.
- citizenship by descent;
- citizenship by naturalization.
Citizenship by descent You may apply for Irish citizenship:
- if one of your parents was an Irish citizen at the time of your birth (regardless of your place of birth);
- if one of your grandparents is an Irish citizen, but none of your parents was born in Ireland;
- through adoption;
Citizenship through naturalization If you are a foreign national living in Ireland, you may become an Irish citizen if you have been physically resident in Ireland for certain length of time.
